Community members taking part in a restorative circle

New Freedmen's Bureau

New Freedmen's Bureau

Restoring lives. Strengthening communities. Healing trauma, resolving conflict, and building safer communities through restorative practices, accountability, and human connection.

What We Believe

Violence is rarely born in a single moment.

It grows from unresolved trauma, fractured relationships, hopelessness, and generations of pain.

Healing those wounds strengthens individuals, families, institutions, and communities. New Freedmen's Bureau helps people move from survival to responsibility, from isolation to connection, and from conflict to restoration.

Our Work

Restorative practice for facilities, families, and neighborhoods.

04 Institutions

Institutional Partnership

We support sheriffs, courts, correctional administrators, foundations, and care professionals with grounded restorative approaches.

Our Philosophy

A restorative question can change the direction of a life.

Rather than asking

"What's wrong with this person?"

Move beyond judgment.

We ask

"What happened to this person?"

Make room for truth and understanding.

Then we help participants answer

"Who do I choose to become now?"

Turn insight into responsibility and forward movement.

Impact Framework

Serious outcomes, measured with care.

As formal reporting grows, progress remains centered on four connected outcomes: safer institutions, stronger relationships, healthier neighborhoods, and durable personal change.
